Attendance

Regular attendance is vital for your child’s success, helping them achieve their best and develop essential life skills.
At Rose Hill Primary School, we closely monitor student attendance and will reach out to offer support if your child’s attendance falls. As a parent or carer, you have a legal responsibility to ensure your child attends school regularly and on time.

Attendance Rewards:
We love celebrating pupils who attend school regularly and work hard to improve their attendance!

• Weekly Rewards: Attendance Bears and extra playtime are awarded to the classes with the highest overall attendance and the most improved attendance.
• Half-Termly Rewards: For every full week a child is in school on time every day, they earn an Attendance Shop ticket. Tickets can be saved and spent on exciting prizes, including our grand prize - a scooter!
• The Big Term Reward: Children who achieve 100% attendance for an entire term are celebrated with hot chocolate, treats, and a special certificate.
• End of Year Grand Finale: Pupils who maintain 100% attendance for the entire school year enjoy an end-of-year cinema trip, complete with popcorn and treats!

Reporting an Absence:
If your child is unable to attend school, please notify us as early as possible on EVERY DAY of their absence.

Please Note: If we have not heard from you by 9:00am, a member of staff will contact you to confirm the reason for your child's absence.

Medical Appointments:
Please schedule medical appointments after 1:30pm whenever possible so your child does not miss key learning time. If an appointment falls late in the morning, please bring your child to school beforehand, collect them for the appointment, and return them afterward.

Term-Time and Planned Absences:

• Holidays taken during term time will not be authorised. The school can only authorise planned absences during term time under exceptional circumstances.
• Penalty Notices: Families taking unauthorised term-time holidays will be referred to the county council for a Penalty Notice of £80 per child, per parent.
• Requesting Leave: Any request for leave must be made in advance by submitting a completed Absence Form to the school office. Taking time off without approval will result in the absence being marked as unauthorised and may lead to legal action.

Attendance and the Law:
Parents and carers are legally responsible for ensuring their children attend school regularly and punctually. Under the Education (Pupil Registration) Regulations 2006, only the school can authorise an absence—not parents or carers. Time off during term time is not a legal right. How Families Can Support Good Attendance:

• Establish routines: Maintain consistent sleep schedules and structured morning routines.
• Encourage daily attendance: Be firm about attending school unless your child is genuinely unwell.
• Manage minor illnesses: Children can often still attend with mild colds or ailments. If needed, you can bring prescribed medication to the office for us to administer.
• Stay in touch: Communicate early with the school if you face any barriers to attendance - we are here to help and support your family.
